Our Mission

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with God’s people in need by building houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which God’s people can live and grow.

NEWS: (last updated: 08/05/08)

DuBois Church Build:  "Church in the Park" hosted by our Dubois Consortium of Churches, raised more than $6,000 during their service on June 21. Thanks to all participants and to all who contributed through this event!

Garage Sale:  Thanks to everyone who helped to make our first garage sale a huge success! More than $4,500 was raised during this two-day event, with all profit benefiting our building program. A huge thanks to Jim Dieringer for permitting the use of his garage and for his generous contribution to our sale.

Big Thanks:  Thanks to Dan Corbett and Veolia Waste for demolishing the derelict house at 400 Pifer St. in DuBois for HFHCC.  Also, thanks to Kohlhepp's True Value for the donation of the blocks to build the new foundation. Since HFHCC extends mortgages based on the cost of the materials in building a home, these were huge donations to our organization.  Thank you!  The house has come down and been replaced by Teresa Garcia's new home.  (More pictures coming soon!)

The picture is of Teresa Garcia, her children, family & representatives of the Church Build.

Next general meeting will be held at noon, Monday, August 11 at Daniel's Fine Dining in Clearfield. As always, this meeting is open to the public, and all are invited to attend.

KOM news:  Plans for our seventh annual King of the Mountain Bike Race are well under way. The race up Rockton Mountain is scheduled for Sunday, October 12 at noon. This event grows a little every year, drawing cyclists from all over Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Volunteers are always needed, so if you're interested in becoming involved, come to our next planning session at noon on Monday, September 8th at Ethan’s Café in Clearfield. If you can't attend but would like to help, call John Farr at (814) 591-6811.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat International:

  • Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical, grassroots Christian Ministry with the goal of eliminating poverty housing.
  • Houses are built or renovated with generous donations of labor, funds, and materials from individuals, churches, charitable foundations, businesses, and corporations.
  • Habitat for Humanity is NOT a giveaway program.  Families are required to pay back an interest free mortgage on the cost of materials and to do 500 hours of work on a Habitat project.
  • Starting in 1976, Habitat has built over 200,000 homes worldwide.

The Clearfield County Chapter:

  • Email: fg6@psu.edu
  • Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County (HFHCC) was founded in 1990, and is administered by a board of directors comprised of volunteers who reside throughout the county.
  • HFHCC first home in Clearfield was completed in 1994.  Since then it has built homes in New Millport, Allport, Clearfield, and DuBois.  There are now 10 completed homes.
  • We have several fundraising events which are important to us.  The King of the Mountain time trial bicycle race earned over $9,000 in 2007.  It is scheduled for Sunday October 12 this year (2008.)  John Farr raised over $7,000 with his annual bike trek in 2007.
  • HFHCC has virtually no administrative overhead.  We have no paid staff.  A phone bill, a post office box, and insurance are our only regular administrative bills.  Moreover, we rarely need to pay for construction services.  As a result, a donation to HFHCC is used entirely for purchasing construction materials.
