HfHCC's program serves those who would not be able to afford a mortgage by conventional means. Each home is sold to a low-income family using a HfHCC no-interest 20-year mortgage for materials used in building the home. Habitat homeowners are carefully selected based upon three criteria: the need for decent, affordable housing; the ability to repay the mortgage loan; and the willingness to partner with Habitat by participating in our sweat equity program. We require 500 hours of sweat equity from our applicant families as part of their eligibility for Habitat homeownership.
There are other organizations concerned with housing issues. You might try using the Pennsylvania Affordable Apartment Locator at www.phfa.org/pal Community Action sells homes
Update: Public meetings for those interested in applying for our DuBois project were held on January 15 and 25. Applications are due by February 25. When all the complete applications have been received the family selection committee will start to process them. The goal is to chose a family by the end of March.
